YRA Reception
Our vision is to be not only the prime education and training centre for the rail industry in the Yorkshire Region, but also to play a key role in the national rail training network.

More about the Yorkshire Rail Academy

The Yorkshire Rail Academy (YRA), which was established in September 2003, is a partnership initiative between York College and the National Railway Museum (NRM). We aim to work closely with the rail industry to provide training, education, and career progression opportunities to all levels. Having close links with the education sector, the Yorkshire Rail Academy is particularly well placed to promote early career opportunities into the industry, particularly Apprenticeships. Also housed at the YRA is York College’s Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Railway Engineering, with a specific focus on signal engineering.

Yorkshire Forward and North Yorkshire Learning and Skills Council (LSC) have invested over £125 million in funding on the development of the facilities at the YRA, which has provided the capability to cater for a wide range of skills needs. These facilities are also available for hire by external organisations and rail companies for their own events, meetings or training delivery.

With the extended resources of York College and partnerships with other rail training providers we operate nationwide and are well equipped to meet the industry requirements for new entrant training, as well as providing for the ‘up-skilling’ of existing employees at all levels.
