Information for Schools
As a partnership organisation between York College and the National Railway Museum (NRM), the Yorkshire Rail Academy (YRA) has strong links with the education sector. The NRM Education and Learning Team, based at the YRA, provide an extensive range of learning and educational opportunities from pre-school, through schools, colleges to higher education and universities.
The YRA is well placed to link schools and colleges with the rail industry, and to promote careers in rail to young people. Working with rail employers we aim to:-
- Develop and provide rail taster sessions for students here at the YRA
- Encourage rail employers to participate in and sponsor student projects
- Help teachers, parents / guardians and careers advisors to understand more about careers in rail, particularly rail engineering
- Open up opportunities for work placements for students with rail companies
- Provide a focal point for rail apprenticeship opportunities
The educational environment here at the YRA, and within the neighbouring NRM, provides a stimulating medium for learning about the railway. In particular, our external track and signalling facility provides the benefit of a realistic but safe learning experience.
