Information for Training Providers
Through our partnerships and links with other rail training providers we aim to provide for a wide range of rail engineering skills and rail safety training requirements. In return we are able to bring to the table a range of expertise within York College and its commercial training company, Pure Business Solutions Ltd. This resources enables us to work with rail employers in meeting their wider and more general skills needs.
Development and Delivery of Training
We will work in collaboration with other training providers to develop and deliver training courses / programmes to meet specific employer requirements. This also includes the joint promotion and marketing of training. Where appropriate, we develop strategic partnerships with other providers.
Training Facilities
Our facilities, which are purpose built for training, are available for hire to providers for the delivery of their own training. All five of our training rooms have interactive whiteboards and built in projection for professional delivery. We also have an external track and signalling facility available for hire, which is ideal for a multitude of training and demonstration purposes.
Access to Funding
Through our association with York College we will identify any opportunities for drawing down funding to support joint training programmes. York College would register learners in order to access such funding and would assume responsibility for the quality assurance of training.
Apprentice Recruitment and Training
Through the Rail CoVE we have the capability to provide for a range of rail engineering apprenticeships. This includes:-
- Signalling Design, Signalling Installation and Signalling Maintenance
- P.Way Maintenance and Renewals
- Engineering Technical Support
- Electrification and Plant Maintenance
- Traction and Rolling Stock Maintenance
Whilst we have our own pool of assessors, we may also utilise the expertise of other training providers. Our approach is to work closely with apprentices and their supervisors / mentors out in the work place, and we also have the benefit of a realistic training environment here at the YRA for skills development and assessment
NVQ Assessment and Internal Verification Services

We have accredited centres for the provision of NVQs for the rail industry, engineering, business administration and customer services. The centres are able to provide an Internal Verification service for training providers who have their own NVQ assessment capability, or we will provide training for Assessor and Internal Verifiers on their behalf.
