Taxi Drivers Up Their Skills

Hackney carriage and private hire taxi drivers have embarked on a special training programme at the Yorkshire Railway Academy.  They are enjoying a ten week course designed to improve the professional image and skills of taxi drivers in the Yorkshire and Humberside region. 

First off the mark are drivers licensed with City of York Council, shortly to be joined by more drivers licensed with either Hambleton District Council or Scarborough.  More from these and other local authority areas are expected to participate in the long term.

Yorkshire Rail Academy Launches New Track Facility

The Yorkshire Rail Academy (YRA) launched its very own external track and signal facility when Professor Andrew McNaughton, Chief Engineer at Network Rail, officially opened this excellent new resource on 6th February 2008. This is a major investment by the YRA made possible by funding provided by the  North Yorkshire LSC and Yorkshire Forward, and the support and professional services of GrantRail, GrantRail Signalling, Westinghouse, Unipart Rail and Mott MacDonalds.

Doctor Alsion Birkinshaw, Principal at York College, rail companies and a range of stakeholders within the rail industry, local government, education and training attended the launch event which included the opportunity to view the external track and signalling facilitiy, as well a guided tour of the Yorkshire Rail Academy itself.
