Further Education Courses / Technical Certificates
The Yorkshire Rail Academy prides itself on being flexible in providing, where possible, customised rail courses for further education. Working with rail engineering professionals we have experience in delivering the following:-
- National Certificate in Operations and Maintenance Engineering (Rail)
- National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Rail Signalling)
- National Certificate in Civil Engineering (Rail)

The Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is an ideal part-time route for those completing an Advanced Apprenticeship in Rail Signalling or Plant and Electrification Engineering, ONC or HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This is a high level qualification that is equivalent to the first two years of a full-time degree. Part-time study is over three years with the option to do a further ‘top up’ year to honours degree level. Approximately one third of the study is undertaken on the job through project work and assignments directly related to the workplace. These form part of the formal assessment for the qualification. The core modules for this route are:-
- Engineering Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Business Management and New Technology
- Instrumentation and Control
- Application of Programmable Logic Controllers
A Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering is also available, and the core modules for this are:-
- Mechanical Principles
- Manufacturing Processes
- Advanced CAD
