These NVQs can be applied across a range of industries / occupational areas and are recommended where rail industry standards are not available
1.Engineering NVQs
Performing Engineering Operations (NVQ Level 2)
This qualification provides a good foundation for engineering and covers:-
- Health and safety requirements
- Materials and engineering processes
- Industrial communication methods (e.g. engineering drawings)
- Practical engineering skills e.g. tools
Engineering Technical Support (NVQ Level 3)
Has mandatory units covering:-
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
- Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
Includes the following pathways suitable for rail engineering design:-
- a.Producing mechanical engineering drawings using computer aided techniques
- b.Producing electrical engineering drawings using computer aided techniques
- c.Producing electronic engineering drawings using computer aided techniques
- d.Producing engineering systems / service drawings using computer aided techniques
- e.Producing fluid power engineering drawings using computer aided techniques
Site Technical Support (NVQ Level 3)
Suitable for those in an engineering technical support role for track renewals, this qualification covers aspects of constructing contracting operations including:-
- Operating health, safety and welfare systems
- Preparing programmes and schedules of work
- Developing and maintaining working relationships
- Implementing contract work
- Establishing and maintaining the dimensional control of works
- Preparing for, collecting, analysing and presenting survey data
2. Other NVQs
Customer Services NVQ Level 2
Suitable for those who are new to the customer services role, and are looking to develop their skills to provide a quality service to customers. This will include:-
- Delivering a reliable customer service
- Resolving customer service problems
- Supporting customer service improvements
Customer Services NVQ Level 3
For those who are expected to introduce improvements to the quality of service they provide to customers, and who may already have some experience in solving problems. The qualification covers:-
- Organising, delivering and maintaining reliable customer service
- Improving customer relationships
- Monitoring and solving customer service problems
Business Administration NVQ Level 2
Suitable for those who are looking to enhance their administrative skills and improve their efficiency and performance in providing support to the business.
Business Administration NVQ Level 3
For those who have acquired the basic administrative skills and are required to become involved in improving systems and services. The qualification is also designed to develop their initiative and creative skills
